Of course, there’s the argument that if you’re spending $999 on a smartphone, you can probably afford to spend $9 extra on a dongle, but that’s stupid. Just for the record, you wouldn’t get a dongle even if you bought the 512GB iPhone XS Max for $1,449 or Rs 1,44,990 in India, and it makes no sense. ![]() That’s just really petty from Apple, especially on a smartphone that is priced at a whopping $999 or Rs 99,990 in India. First, the lack of a headphone dongle in the box. Anyway, the issue I have (and so does almost everyone else on the planet other than the Cupertino staff) is with two things. ![]() So the iPhone XS is an absolute beauty, and I’ll not go into further detail about it here because then what will I write in the full review? Heh. Note: You can skip this if you’re not interested in reading anything bad about Apple or the way it tries to earn more money from its customers. No headphone dongle (because apparently it’s impossible to include a $9 accessory with a $999 iPhone).Charger ( not a fast charger, so it takes forever to charge your new iPhone).Lightning EarPods (because of the courage Apple showed two years back).Apple stickers (whatever you do, please don’t stick these on your car? Please?).Lots and lots of manuals and certification cards that you won’t ever read. The iPhone XS (because you paid for it).I’m not sure if the other colors come with the text and logo in their respective colors as well, but they probably do.Īnyway, opening the box is the usual Apple affair with easy to slide-out lids, a pull tab for the phone, and some in-box accessories under it. The Gold variant that we got (which looks gorgeous, by the way) comes in a standard white box with the ‘iPhone’ text and the Apple logo done in gold - that’s a nice touch. The iPhone XS and XS Max also add stereo audio capture to video, along with wider dynamic range, so video looks and sounds better than the iPhone X.The iPhone XS comes in the usual iPhone-y box that has remained the same for the last, I don’t know how many years, and that’s perfectly fine. Overall, the iPhone XS and XS Max offer better camera performance than the already great iPhone X, including improvements in low light. This betters the previous HDR system thanks to more power, meaning it can give you better HDR photos in any conditions. The iPhone XS and XS Max also offer a Smart HDR system, which the iPhone X doesn't have either. The feature won't be coming to the iPhone X. The iPhone XS and XS Max continue to offer a dual rear camera, with both offering the same composition as the iPhone X - the megapixels and apertures remain the same, but Apple has introduced the ability to change the bokeh effect on portrait mode photos after you take the shot. The front camera is a TrueDepth 7-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and features like Animoji and Portrait Mode. ![]() It offers a range of features including optical and digital zoom, dual optical image stabilisation and portrait mode, along with 4K video recording. The XS Max meanwhile, measures 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7mm and weighs 208g, so it's more tailored towards the Plus user. The iPhone XS measures 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 177g, making it almost identical to the iPhone X, so it's very much a replacement for that phone. Improvements have been made for Wi-Fi and cellular transmissions in the XS and XS Max however. The XS Max is larger than both the iPhone XS and X, but the design remains the same across the three devices. The iPhone XS and XS Max successors continue to offer a stainless steel core with a glass rear and front, a notched display and a vertically aligned dual camera on the back. The X comes in Space Grey and Silver colour options, measures 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 174g. There is a vertically aligned dual camera on the rear and a notch at the top of the display on the front. The Apple iPhone X features a stainless steel core with a glass front and back, allowing for wireless charging. Apple iPhone XS vs XS Max vs iPhone X design
